Language Centre in Bali

Introduction

The local NGO in which you will work was setup in 2008 to provide local Balinese with the opportunity to learn English and greatly improve their life chances. With a good command of the English language, the Balinese students are able to gain employment in the booming tourism sector on their island, and lift themsleves and their families out of poverty.

The aim of this organisation is teach local children and adults English, using funds raised from providing tourists and expats with Indonesian Bahasa language and music lessons. The organisation also supports many charitable activities going on in Bali, including fundraising for local disbaled children, and running environmental initiatives with local Balinese farmers (see the Environmental Conservation Careership for further information).

Daily Life

You will be able to either take your own class or assist another teacher in at least 2 classes a week, for 1.5 hours each. When teaching on your own, lessons plans and teaching resources will be provided, and you will have the support of a bilingual teacher assistant.

You have the option to teach English, French and/or Japanese, depending upon your skills.  You will also get free Bahasa Indonesia lessons, should you want them.

Besides teaching, you can also get involved in helping design new activities and events for children. This is a very flexible placement, and whatever skills you may have are also welcome.
