Introduction

Get up close and personal with the orphaned elephants of Sri Lanka. This orphanage is home to about 80 elephants, all of whom could do with your help.

You will work northwest of Kegalle (Central Province), in a 25 acre coconut land bordering the river. The wide area of shallow water and huge boulders make this area an ideal place for these magnificent animals.

This facility was established in year 1975 as a conservation breading center for Elephants by the Sri Lankan Wild Life Department. It was started with a herd of just five baby elephants. This Orphanage is now one of the largest elephant breeding centres in the world.

Among the many elephants at the orphanage, there are three which will definitely get most your attention. Namely "PANDU", "RAJA", and "SAMA". Come and find out why!
