Introduction

This is an excellent opportunity for those looking to pursue or begin a career in Travel Journalism, Documentary Production and Project Management for NGO operations. There is the opportunity to become an independent Travel Journalist for our partner NGO and to begin working on various other continents. This is a great way to get a foot in the door to the industry!

This non-profit project started in May 2007 with a mission to bring awareness and economic help for causes such as animal welfare, human rights, and environmental conservation. This is achieved with artistic methods such as writing, photography and documentaries. Latin America is the current focus of this project. Other continents to be tackled in the coming years.

Current itinerary:

a. Ikiam (Environmental Documentary) Amazon, Ecuador
About: A documentary about the effects of oil exploitation on the environment, cultures, health and economy of Amazonian communities within Ecuador.
Currently in Post Production; Possibillity of three more documentaries based on the same issues.

b. Bullets of Love (Human Rights Documentary) Rio De Janeiro, Brazil
About: The inspirational story of a man helping his hometown- Rochina, the largest favela in Brazil.
Currently in Pre Production.

c. Shiwiar Culture (Cultural Education) Juyuintza Tribe, Ecuador

About: A documentary about the cultural changes of the Juyuintsa, Shiwiar tribe of Ecuador's Amazon.
Currently in Post Production.


Daily Life

Interns will have the opportunity to develop technical, Human and Conceptual skills in order to learn about and input their own ideas into the following activities:

* Business, social enterprise and not for profit management, including marketing, finance, strategy, innovation, planning and organising.

* Approach new potential clients and build on current and maintain relationships with schools, community centres and councils fort the Global Leaders Program. Refer here for more information.

* Build donor and volunteer capacity for free and/or low cost social and environmental people and organisations throughout the world through journalism (videos and documentaries, podcasts, writing and photography).

* Capacity building for organisations helping with animal welfare human rights and environmental conservation- Journalism (video’s, podcasts, writing, photography).

* Post Production (including editing) for documentaries and videos.

* Engaging communities with photography exhibitions and Film festivals. eg. Photography Exhibitions and Sydney Social and Environmental Film Festival (SSEFF).

* Networking- Pitching projects

Most of the events and activities mentioned above include involvement in logistics, funding and promotion such as hiring venues, organizing entertainment and catering, gaining sponsorship and/or grants, contacting and liaising with media etc.


Using these activities you will:

* Create awareness about animal welfare, human rights and environmental conservation, and show the common links between these areas

* Encourage youth to live out their dreams whilst positively contributing to the environment, animals and humanity

* Encourage people to experience the rewards of humanitarian help, animal welfare, and environmental efforts firsthand

* Acknowledge people from many different countries who contribute to the world with positive action and intention

* Improve relations between NGO’s in many different countries and facilitate networking

How the aims and objectives will be achieved:

* Connecting people emotionally to the passion of activists through artistic and creative media content published online and on site on public expositions

* Bringing attention to the challenges faced by orphanages, schools, community groups, animal sanctuaries, and environmental and conservation projects

* Acting worldwide as a cultural and social ambassador for the countries involved

* Providing impoverished people with information and options to become involved in volunteering for their communities

* Through inspiring motivational speeches given to school students and prospective volunteers in various countries

In order to achieve this, support is needed from the community, including the business sector, the media industry and individuals.


Training

A training package will be developed to suit each intern’s individual requirements and therefore participants must pay the internship fee ONE MONTH PRIOR to commencement.

Once you have been accepted onto the program and payment has been made, you are required to fill out a number of questionnaires including surveys and quizzes prior to your initial start date.

During the internship, you have the option of specific or all activity training.

You will be invited to attend workshops and seminars as part of your training. Workshops can relate to (but are not limited to) Leadership and Change, Strategy Building, Law and Human Rights, Innovation, Business, and Futurism.

Accommodation

You will be based in Sydney.  All meals are not included. Please see you options below:

Price Breakdown:
Training $1,100 – Based on $550 per month

Budget Accommodation: $1,390 - Based on approximately $140 per week (all utilities included)
Shared accommodation: $1,700 - Based on approximately $170 per week (all utilities included)
Private accommodation: $2,180 - Based on approximately $220 pew week (all utilities included)

Requirements

A typical Volunteer Multi-Media Travel Journalists who wants to join this unique project needs to be enthusiastic, willing to learn, ready for a challenge and have a desire to take initiative. Friendliness, care, commitment and patience are among important qualities. This role is critical in ensuring awareness about each participating individual, group and/or organization is brought to the attention of the public with truthfulness, and cultural sensitivity.

* Min age 18 - Max age 60
* Minimum 2 months commitment
* Reasonable physical fitness
* Motivation to work in journalism and the Community sector
* Good spoken English
* Full travel & medical insurance
* Full Vaccinations
* Necessary flights and visas (You will need to cover the airfare to Australia or project location at that time)
* Participants must make payment one month prior to internship commencement.
