Duration: Minimum 4 weeks commitment

Cost: $400 USD for 4 weeks placement. Includes 24 hour support, programme activities, 2 day orientation and cultural immersion, all accommodation - food not including (budget around $5-$10 a day).

Work: Help develop tourism in the largest Arab city in Israel

Travel: You will fly into Tel Aviv International airport, and will be given easy to follow instructions on how to get to the project HQ. You will then be put on the correct bus to the project site after a 2 day orientation (bus journey will cost around $6).

Introduction

Nazareth is situated in the green mountainous Galilee region of northern Israel approximately 102 km north of Tel Aviv and 40 km east of Haifa.

The Hotel in which you will be working is a beautiful 300 year old Ottoman building that was converted into an inn in 2005. The  Hotel promotes ecotourism in Nazareth and works with the community to contribute to its development in various areas. The hotel uses local resources to create new work places, to raise the self- image of the local community, and to encourage economic growth while preserving the universal values of natural and cultural preservation. The aim is to introduce in Nazareth, which is the largest Arab city in Israel, a new model of tourism and thus help to "bridge the gap" between Arabs and Jews.

Nazareth is a vibrant city, with the feel of a small village, and offers much more than its Christian pilgrim history. While the myriad of churches are certainly worth a visit, you can explore the cobbled streets of the Old City with its crumbling mansions, authentic souk and excellent restaurants specializing in local dishes. On your days of you can travel to other beautiful locations in Northern Israel such as the Sea of Galilee and the historic port of Akko on the Mediterranean coast.

Daily Life

You will be involved in hosting the guests and reception work. Volunteers will also be encouraged to help with other projects associated with the Hotel such as the Jesus Trail. You can help teach the staff to learn a new foreign language as well as to members of the coal community.

Accommodation

You will stay at the Hotel in a dormitory room suitable for 5 people. You may use the inn’s kitchen facilities to cook breakfast and dinner.
