Costs Explained

Make a significant difference to the homeless people of Sydney with this great food outreach program. Helping to provide them with nutritious food, you will also have the opportunity to inspire and support them throughout your journey. The number of homeless in Sydney is growing each year and they’re in desperate need of short-term support.

You will work alongside a local team, as well as food banks within the city. You’ll be providing food to over 100 people, consisting of Australians, New Zealanders, Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islanders. The program also focuses on providing shower facilities, haircuts and part time job opportunities to the homeless. This means you won’t just be providing daily meals, you’ll also be helping to really change their lives.

Throughout the program you will also have the opportunity to explore this beautiful city. Sydney is one of the most vibrant, modern cities in the world, boasting plenty of attractions and entertainment. You will also head out to a local wildlife park on Tuesday mornings where you will learn more about the unique flora (plants) and fauna (animals) of Australia.

You will largely be working in the afternoons and evenings, though regular breaks are provided.

Daily Life

You will be working Monday to Friday, largely preparing food in the afternoons and delivering it in the evenings. A typical weekly schedule consists of:

Monday – You will start with an orientation into the program which will explain the activities and tasks you’ll be carrying out throughout the week. After lunch, food preparation will begin within the centre, ready to be delivered later that evening. You will head to the centre’s project site to deliver the food, before returning to the centre.

Tuesday – Your morning will start with a trip to the Walkabout Wildlife Park. Here, you will be able to explore the beautiful and unique flora and fauna. You will head back to the centre for lunch, then you’ll be prepping and packing the food ready for evening distribution.

Wednesday – You will join a local group who cooks and serves food for the homeless. You will work alongside them to prepare, pack and serve the food to the local homeless population.

Thursday – You will prepare and pack the food during the morning at the centre. Then you’ll head out to serve it in the evening. You will have the time to interact and share your experiences with the homeless, providing a unique opportunity to help support and inspire them.

Friday – You will visit food banks in order to get packing materials and food supplies for the next week. After lunch, you will be free to explore Sydney on your own.
