This unique program gives you the opportunity to head to the beautiful island of Bali to help high school students develop basic IT skills. Though you do not necessarily need to be an IT expert, you will need to be keen to help the students learn.
The centre is based in the quiet town of Ubud. Boasting a traditional, cultural atmosphere, you will have ample opportunities to meet the locals and immerse yourself in Bali culture. It is a fantastic chance to help educate children in a remarkable and beautiful location.
You will be spending time teaching both junior high and high school students, aged 11-15 years old. While there is a general syllabus you will need to follow, you are free to teach in whichever way you want to. All of the students are a joy to teach and are passionate about developing their skills.
You have the opportunity to team up with other participants too. Having additional teachers present in the classroom can greatly help with your confidence, as well as to control the class. The student’s enthusiasm can often spill over into great excitement. So, having 2-3 teachers in a classroom can prove really beneficial. It also gives you the chance to socialise with the other participants, creating potentially life-long friendships.
This is a great project to be a part of if you love to teach in your own unique style. You’ll be helping to not just improve the students IT skills, but also set them up for a career in IT.
Your placement can start with an optional Cultural Discovery Week, which will introduce you to the Balinese way of life, and prepare you for the rest of your placement. This week is automatically included in your placement. Your schedule will look like this;
After our coordinator collects you from the airport, you’ll be taken to check in at your guest house. The day begins with a briefing to outline your program, and to tell you our house rules. You’ll be introduced to Bali on a walking tour of Monkey Street, the main commercial road in the city. There’ll be a welcome dinner, followed by a traditional Balinese dance in Ubud palace.
After breakfast, you’ll be given a language lesson to teach you some key phrases. After that, you’ll go on a walking tour of the village, where you’ll get to experience how Balinese families live.
After breakfast, you’ll be given a language lesson to teach you some key phrases. In the afternoon, you’ll go to a local batik shop, where you’ll learn how to draw, and paint your own batik designs.
You will be given a Balinese Cooking Class. You will learn to cook Balinese food. In the after noon you’ll learn how to make an offering to God, and the spirits of the Hindu religion. There will be a flower offering class, and you’ll be taught how to make a flower basket. You can use your flower offering in the next day.

You’ll be free to enjoy your weekend however you choose, and you will start your volunteer placement on the following Monday!
After your optional Introductory Week, you will be working Monday to Friday, teaching for around 4 hours each morning. The afternoons consist of lesson planning and preparing for the next day. You will largely be teaching basic Microsoft Office skills, academic use of software and advanced programming depending upon your experience.
You will have breakfast at 7:30am and teaching starts from 8am until 12pm. After an hour’s lunch, you’ll then start the planning and prepping for the next day until 6pm when you’ll have dinner. The evenings are then free for you to do as you please.
Why not explore Ubud and its fascinating culture? There’s a beautiful majestic palace situated right in the centre of the town. There are also lots of great art studios, galleries and a craft market to be explored during the weekends.
You could also explore Ubud in the evenings, taking advantage of its laid-back atmosphere. You’ll find cultural night performances at the Puri Saren Royal Palace and live music events at the Laughing Buddha Bar just north of the Ubud Monkey Forest.
