This rewarding placement gives you the opportunity to help rehabilitate and rehome abandoned animals. If you’re an animal lover who wants to make a real difference, this is the opportunity for you.
Situated on the beautiful island of Cyprus, you will largely work to maintain the rescue centre. This includes feeding the animals, taking care of injured animals, assisting the local veterinarian and potentially going out to rescue animals.
The placement takes place within the Famagusta and Larnaca regions, through a network of rescue centres. You will be working alongside local rescue experts to collect and transport orphaned, sick and injured animals. You’ll also play a huge role in the rehabilitation and release of the animals, especially those which have been orphaned after one or both parents were killed in a road accident.
As well as helping to make a difference to vulnerable animals, your time off also allows you to explore the local surroundings. Larnaca is an especially beautiful place to explore. Best known for its breathtaking Finikoudes beach, which is situated right in the heart of the city, it boasts a vibrant nightlife scene with many great waterfront bars to choose from. You will also find numerous cultural attractions within the local area. Famagusta is also worth exploring, though it isn’t as vibrant as it used to be.
What better way to experience this beautiful, romantic island than by volunteering for a well-deserved rescue centre?
After your optional Introductory first week to Lanarca and the project, you will be working Monday to Friday, starting early and finishing at 16.30. Breakfast will be provided for you before you head off to the animal rehabilitation centre. You will stop for lunch, which again will be provided, before returning back to work until 16.30.
Daily tasks will vary greatly, with no two days ever being the same. You could be helping to feed the animals, or monitoring, assessing and and reporting your findings on the animals within the centre. You may need to change bandages, administer ointments and medication, clean enclosures and wash and the clean the animals when required.
After 16:30, you are free to do whatever you like, such as explore some of the island’s most beautiful attractions and sites. Or, why not head to the beach and enjoy relaxing in a truly tranquil, beautiful environment. You can also interact with the locals, potentially meeting long-term friends.
As part of the placement includes collecting sick, injured and abandoned animals, you do need to be prepared to face upsetting situations. However, you will be a part of rehabilitating the animals you collect, along with rehoming them in long-term placements.
