Costs Explained

Malaysia is a beautiful country filled with contrasts – culturally and geographically diverse, with dynamic cities and peaceful beaches, authentic small villages and pristine rainforests. Essentially split between the mainland peninsula and the island of Borneo, Malaysia is incredibly ethnically and spiritually diverse with a combination of Malays, Chinese and Indians and indigenous groups practising many religions from Buddhism, Islam and Christianity to Hinduism and Taoism.

Kuching is the capital city of Sarawak, one of two Malaysian states on Borneo and the gateway to its many natural wonders. It’s a charming and enticing city with old colonial architecture juxtaposed with modern towers. It offers a lot to see and do and provides easy access to the nearby attractions.

This project works with several kindergartens schools in the Kuching area and allows you to encourage small children to learn and to grow by teaching them not only language and communication skills but also influencing them with new ideas which can help them flourish in the future. You will get a chance to work in local kindergartens in a fun and informal atmosphere! Focus will be more on playful interaction rather than formal teaching as the kids are aged 4 to 5 years old.

You will have an unforgettable and life-changing experience and you will make a valuable contribution to the local community.

Intro. Week

We offer an amazing (optional) introduction to Malaysia, and the perfect way to get started with your placement! Your schedule for the first week will look like this;

After breakfast you will be given an orientation, and details of the week ahead. After lunch, we’ll take you on a walking tour around Kuching, exploring all the sights, sounds and colours that make this town come alive. In the evening you will be welcomed with a party!

Today you’ll explore Kuching by bike, followed by a boat trip along the river. In the afternoon, you will get a language lesson (Bahasa-local Language). This will involve learning Bahasa the local language and also about traditional culture and customs. This knowledge will be useful for your day to day activities and in interacting with locals once your project week begins.

Today you will be visiting Semenggoh Wildlife Park where you will observe Orangutans released from the sanctuary. In the afternoon you will get an authentic Malay cooking lesson, and be able to taste your own creations for dinner.

Your cultural education continues as we visit a local village taking in the architecture and the food. After lunch we head to gorgeous Damal Beach to watch the sun set.

Today you will visit the Fort Margherita and Orchid Garden. The Fort Margherita was built in 1879 to protect from pirate attacks. Inside the fort, you can visit the James Brooke Gallery, and learn all about the British Colony in Sarawak. In the afternoon, you will come back to the centre to learn all about local art.

***The schedule can be changed and/or amended depending on weather conditions, local conditions and unforeseen circumstances.***

You will need to bring;
