- Flexible placement, tailored according to your interests and abilities.
- Help with local construction projects in the incredible village of La Gi.
Vietnam is a highly populous country with a dynamic rate of development that in recent years has witnessed the renovation of roads, the emergence of new buildings and major changes in the cities. Unlike Thailand and Cambodia, Vietnam is less influenced by Western culture and retains a unique identity, which manifests in many ways including the delicious traditional food. Vietnam's fast-growing economy is assisted by tourism, led by the growing interest for the country's fascinating history and breathtaking sights such as its beaches, the beautiful countryside in the north and the typical rice fields. Despite their painful past , the Vietnamese are proud of their heritage and embrace life with determination and enthusiasm. La Gi is a beautiful small beach town in the southern part of the country where you can experience an authentic local feel.
The purpose of this project is to provide assistance to the local villagers with renovation and light construction work and to create an opportunity for cross-cultural exchange. You can contribute to enhancing the living conditions of the local community as well as the communal areas such as schools, temples and clinics. With budgets that are not sufficient for maintaining and renovating living quarters, the need arises for many different renovation and construction works. Depending on the local conditions and the need at the time you may take up tasks including painting, repairing chairs and tables, building walls and toilets and many more.
You will have a unique experience engaging with the community and learning more about its people and culture while making a contribution!
Your first day will start with a briefing meeting after breakfast and will continue with working in the placements. The day will wrap up with a meeting about your first day and dinner.
Your remaining time working on the project will include various physical tasks and will depend on the current needs.
On your last day, you will have a final evaluation.
***The schedule can be changed and/or amended depending on weather conditions, local conditions and unforeseen circumstances.***
Your accommodation is a cozy guesthouse with 7 rooms reserved for volunteers. You will be sharing single-gender rooms with 4-6 other volunteers. All rooms are air-conditioned, lockable and have private bathrooms and hot showers. They are equipped with fans and bed linens; however, you need to bring your own towels. Conveniently located in the centre of La Gi, the guesthouse is a mere 10-15 minutes taxi ride from the local beach. The surrounding coffee shops are at your disposal for relaxation and reflection in your free time and you can venture out to explore the local restaurants which boast to be the makers of the best Pho in town. If you need to go to a supermarket, there is one within 10-15 minute walking distance and a little further away you can also find an ATM. Beyond walking, there are many taxis and rickshaws that will take you to any destination of your choice.
There is wifi available in the guesthouse; however, the quality of the connection depends on the weather conditions and at times, the heavy rain will affect it.
