UCL Competition – Global Identities
Oxfam reported in 2016 that 8 people have more wealth than 3.5billion people combined.
This current socioeconomic inequality is driving people to question the concept of globalisation, while closed-border ideologies are winning political ground. Traveling is an effective way for people to familiarise themselves with different cultures, to open their minds and deconstruct their pre-conceived stereotypes, whilst forming a Global Identity. At the same time, this level of disenfranchisement, coupled with environmental destruction, creates a necessity for solidarity. Effective volunteering in disadvantaged communities and environmental hotspots has never been more important.
This is why Global Nomadic is running a competition specifically about traveling and volunteering abroad. In the form of an essay, we want you to talk about how traveling and volunteering abroad can help an individual shape your personal identity, whilst building stronger communities.
