Costs Explained

Introduction

Our apprenticeship program offers a meaningful and immersive alternative for those who want to spend their training period connected to nature and engaged in purposeful, hands-on sustainability work. Instead of being placed in a traditional office or corporate environment, you will join a living project that creates real social, ecological, and economic impact in the region.

At Eco Caminhos, you become part of a community dedicated to regenerative practices and long-term environmental stewardship. Here, every task contributes to a healthier ecosystem, a stronger community, and a more sustainable future.

Completing your apprenticeship abroad also brings the added richness of cultural and language immersion. Yet the most transformative aspect is often personal: living close to nature and working with a supportive, multicultural team opens space for self-discovery, resilience, creativity, and new perspectives. Volunteers often leave with a deeper understanding of themselves and a clearer sense of purpose in both their personal and professional lives.

Daily Life

As an apprentice, your week will be a balanced combination of hands-on work, research, learning activities, and time to explore nature. Apprentices typically work 8 hours per day, 3 days a week (usually Monday, Wednesday, and Friday). The remaining workdays are dedicated to research or specific academic tasks, allowing you to meet your university requirements while fully integrating into our daily routine. We offer flexibility to support your academic goals.

Throughout the week, you will participate in a variety of practical activities, including agroforestry, natural building (bioconstruction), organic farming, and animal care. On Tuesdays, we host introductory sessions on sustainable farming and construction techniques. Thursdays are reserved for eco-sport and nature activities, such as scenic mountain hikes, waterfall visits, natural pools, and mountain bike tours.

We host monthly community meetings where volunteers and apprentices can share feedback, ideas, and reflections. Weekends are free, and we also offer two optional eco-sport or tourism activities per month. Many apprentices choose to explore Nova Friburgo or even take weekend trips to Rio de Janeiro.

Every two weeks, volunteers gather for community nights, which may include shared dinners, bonfires, karaoke, movies, or stargazing. We welcome ideas for new activities, as we value quality time and cultural exchange within the group.

Research Component

Together with your supervisor, you will choose a research topic aligned with our sustainability goals. Our agroforestry and natural building projects provide strong foundations for applied research focused on regenerating monoculture landscapes, improving income stability for local farmers, or supporting the adoption of natural building techniques in the region.

With the construction of our Ecolibrium compound, you will also have opportunities to explore innovative practices in sustainable architecture, energy systems, ecological design, and community development. Your research will directly contribute to improving our methodologies and strengthening our long-term impact.

Travel and Accom.

Airport pick-up is not included, but we can arrange a private transfer for €170 each way. This option offers a comfortable and safe arrival directly to the farm. If you prefer a more immersive experience, we also provide step-by-step instructions for traveling by public transportation, allowing you to engage with Brazilian culture from the moment you land.

We offer three accommodation options to fit different preferences and budgets. From simple shared volunteer housing to high-comfort eco-lodges suitable for families or for those who value privacy and a premium experience, you can choose the environment that best suits your lifestyle. Reliable internet is available in all accommodation types. When applying, we’ll help you select the option that aligns with your needs.

Eco Caminhos is located at the edge of the Three Peaks Natural Reserve, one of Brazil’s most stunning mountain regions. The surrounding Atlantic Forest offers countless opportunities for adventure and relaxation. Volunteers enjoy hiking trails, camping weekends, breathtaking lookouts, natural pools, and horseback riding, all within a short distance from the farm.

To support community building, we host weekly social activities such as movie nights, game nights, and volunteer gatherings around the campfire. Every couple of weeks, we organize optional camping trips for those looking to deepen their connection with nature.

During your free time, you are welcome to explore on your own or join our organized outings. Some hikes and local walks are free, while activities like horseback riding may have additional fees. Nearby Nova Friburgo offers cafés, markets, restaurants, and a welcoming atmosphere. For those seeking a vibrant urban experience, Rio de Janeiro is just a 3-hour bus ride away, offering world-famous beaches, culture, and nightlife.
