Join us in the unexpected adventure capital of Europe, Northern Wales! Wales is known for its wild, rich and beautiful landscapes with so much to explore. Become a volunteer and experience the full on lifestyle of a dog musher in the Adventure Capital!

Our Wales Husky Ranch is family owned and operated, it is the first and only outdoor activity provider that specialise in sled dog rides and experiences in Northern Wales. Their team consist of a range of breeds including Siberian Huskies, Scandinavians Hounds, Alaskan Huskies and German short Haired pointers along with feral cats and free-range chickens! On a 13 acres smallholding surrounded by beautiful landscapes like open moorland, forest, vast beaches and Snowdonia National Park they made their home! Take this opportunity to learn and experience the lifestyle of a dog musher and all the jobs and rewards that come with it. You will help with sled dog related tasks, house and land maintenance, sled dog riding when visitors are there, supervising and socialising with the dogs during free run exercise and whelping when it comes around. You will have many opportunities to experience the Welsh culture and language when visiting the village for provisions and socialising. This project is no easy holiday option but it is rewarding.

Daily Life

Volunteers are a great resource to the ranch. It is always important to show respect, take initiative, ask questions and to get involved in all the activities that are done at the project. The ranch exist out of a Kennel of working sleddogs, house dog, 3 cats and 14 chickens.
You will take part in some of the following tasks:
o Feeding
o Hydrating
o Cleaning Kennels
o Maintaining dog room
o Changing dog beddings
o Supervising and socialising with dogs
o Cuddling
o Grooming and bathing
o Puppy care and training
o Whelping
o Kennel and Animal house maintenance
o Planting trees
o Manage dog on stake
o Work with visitors
o Hiking with dogs

Travel and Accom.

Accommodation
A clean and cozy room within the family home, either a single or double. Bedding and towels provided. A large bathroom is shared with the family which includes a bath and shower.

The water supplied to the property is via a mountain well, this is filtered within the property to ensure that it is safe for human consumption. The ranch is on a 13 acre off grid smallholding in very remote North Wales. The family consists out of Joe and Mark (husband and wife) and their young son Phoenix.

Things to bring from home

  • Clothes for cold temperatures as well as for summer for warm temperatures. Make sure these clothes are allowed to get dirty. Make sure to bring gloves, a toque and warm socks with you. wellington boots, warm clothes, thick socks, gloves & hat for winter months.
  • Comfortable walking shoes are essential, and you should also pack a raincoat and some sun block
  • Linen and towel, waterproof over-jacket & over trousers will be provided if necessary.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch and Evening meal with the family are included. We share cooking so it would be good if the volunteer is able to help with this or prepare an occasional meal.

  • Required to commit to a minimum of 4 weeks
  • NO SMOKING is NOT allowed on the property or surrounding land.
  • Strong work ethics are required: reliable, responsible, honest, good sense of humour, dependable, physically and mentally fit.
  • Do not leave anything hazardous or any personal items around the dogs – out of curiosity, they may consume something toxic or harmful.
  • To make sure you complete your work to the appropriate standard
  • To speak up if you do not feel comfortable completing a task
  • Must love animals, keen on the outdoors, happy to brave the weather, and able bodied.
  • Age: 18+
