Introduction
Sports are at the heart of life in Fiji — especially rugby, which is more than just a game here; it’s a national passion. From local villages to international tournaments, Fiji has produced some of the world’s most celebrated athletes, and its teams, including the iconic Fiji Sevens, are a source of immense pride.
Sigatoka, known as Fiji’s “Rugby Town,” is where this love for sports truly comes alive. With venues like Lawaqa Park and a community deeply connected to the game, it’s the perfect setting for anyone looking to share their enthusiasm for sport while giving back in a meaningful way.
Through this Sports Education Program, you’ll become part of a community initiative that inspires and empowers children through physical activity. Whether you’re leading rugby drills, organizing soccer games, or introducing netball and volleyball, your focus will be on building confidence, promoting teamwork, and encouraging a healthy lifestyle.
You’ll work closely with local coaches and schools to teach essential sports skills while also guiding children in values like discipline, respect, and resilience. Your presence won’t just help kids become better players—it will help shape them into stronger, more confident individuals.
For experienced rugby players, there may also be a chance to train and play alongside local teams, offering a unique way to connect through sport and deepen your experience.
Daily Life
Beyond the games and drills, this is a chance to immerse yourself in Fijian culture and connect with a warm, welcoming community. You’ll get to know local families, experience village life, and see firsthand how sport brings people together, breaking down barriers and lifting spirits.
No coaching experience? No problem. All you need is enthusiasm, a love of sports, and a willingness to lead with heart. Whether you’re sharing basic skills or just cheering from the sidelines, your presence will make a difference.
Travel & Accom.
During your program you will stay in our centre located in the greater Pacific Harbour area. The dorm-style bedrooms at the house are shared and single-gender, with access to hot-shower bathrooms. The rooms have wall fans for cooling and there are refrigerators at the centre for the participants to use. There is wi-fi available; however, the speed and quality may not be always at the highest level.
All participants are expected to be environmentally conscious and to use all resources mindfully especially water, paper and electricity. Every participant is responsible for cleaning up after themselves and contributing to keeping the accommodations neat and tidy.
There are three meals served on weekdays and two meals on the weekends. Breakfast is western style while lunch and dinner are typical Fijian meals. Tea, coffee and water is available at all times.
Within a 5-10 minutes radius from the centre you can find many ATMs, a local supermarket and a local shop where you buy a SIM card for your mobile phone. Suva is about an hour away by car and Navua is only 10 minutes away.
