Azores: Youth Support Volunteer

Introduction

Make a meaningful impact by joining our volunteer program on São Miguel Island, where you’ll support children and teenagers from underprivileged backgrounds through education and creative expression. As a volunteer, you will contribute to interactive learning experiences, from teaching English to organizing arts workshops and outdoor activities, helping young people build confidence, develop skills, and explore new possibilities.

Partnering with local NGOs, you’ll help create a safe, inspiring environment where children can learn, express themselves, and grow. Whether through painting, theater, outdoor games, or language support, your role will be to spark curiosity and creativity while fostering personal development. This program offers a unique opportunity to make a lasting difference in young lives while experiencing the rich culture and natural beauty of the Azores.

Daily Life

As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to engage with children and teenagers through a variety of enriching activities designed to support their education and personal growth. Your role will involve creating and leading playful educational games that make learning enjoyable and interactive.

You will also organize and run creative workshops in areas such as painting, theater, and music, giving young people the chance to explore their artistic talents and express themselves in new ways. Additionally, you’ll promote healthy habits by facilitating outdoor games, group outings, and wellness sessions that encourage teamwork, movement, and well-being.

Supporting English language learning will be another key aspect of your role, providing interactive practice and homework help to improve students’ communication skills. Most importantly, you will build meaningful connections with the students, becoming a positive influence in their lives while actively participating in their daily experiences and personal development.

Travel and Accom.

Upon your arrival at the airport, you will be greeted and transported to our project.

Volunteers will be accommodated in dormitories at a centrally located youth hostel. The dormitories are available in female-only or mixed-gender options and feature private bathrooms shared with other occupants in the room.

You will enjoy three meals a day—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—provided at the hostel. The menu features local cuisine prepared in local style, offering a delightful mix of meat, fish, and fresh vegetables.

Upon arrival, volunteers will attend an orientation event that includes an introduction to local culture, an overview of the volunteer experience and program details, practical information, and safety guidelines.

Additionally, you will have the opportunity to participate in a guided city tour, receiving insider tips to help them discover the best of what the city has to offer.

• Minimum 1 week commitment
• Good English skills
• Necessary vaccinations
• Necessary flight & visas
