Introduction

Join our program in São Miguel Island and help children, teens, and elderly residents develop personal and social skills, while also supporting creative expression through hip hop dance and ensuring organized health management. From educational games and arts workshops to dance sessions and medication tracking, your contribution will help create a healthier, more inclusive community.
Make a difference in the heart of São Miguel Island by working alongside local NGOs to support children, teens, and elderly residents. Volunteers play a hands-on role in organizing creative, educational, and recreational activities that promote personal growth and community connection.

As part of the program, you can also contribute to a Hip-Hop Dance Project, providing young people at risk of social exclusion with a safe space to develop dance skills, build confidence, and foster teamwork. You can also support the NGO’s medication management system, helping ensure the safe storage, accurate tracking, and efficient use of essential medicines for the community.

From mentoring through art and movement to ensuring health safety and resource optimization, this is a truly holistic opportunity to make a lasting impact.

Daily Life

Creative Learning & Expression
Plan and lead engaging educational games, arts workshops, and cultural activities that inspire creativity and personal growth among children and seniors. Your role will help foster a stimulating environment where participants can learn, express themselves, and connect with others.

Hip-Hop Dance Sessions
Work with teens in a structured dance program designed to build confidence, teamwork, and resilience. Through movement and choreography, you’ll help young people develop life skills while providing a fun and empowering outlet for self-expression.

Medication Management
Support the NGO’s healthcare initiatives by organizing, sorting, and digitizing medication records. Your contribution will help ensure the safe and efficient distribution of essential medicines, improving overall community care.

Healthy Lifestyle Promotion
Encourage well-being through physical activities, outdoor games, and wellness workshops. By promoting healthy habits, you’ll help create a more active and informed community, benefiting individuals of all ages.

Daily Tasks:

Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays – Activities with Children:

Lead playful educational games and creative arts, theater, and music workshops.

Promote healthy habits through outdoor play and healthy snack sessions.

Assist with English language practice and homework help.

Tuesdays & Thursdays – Activities with the Elderly:

Organize gentle physical activities, walks, or yoga tailored to seniors.

Lead creative memory workshops, storytelling, and arts & crafts.

Encourage cultural exchange through personal storytelling and traditions.

Throughout the Week – Hip Hop Dance Project:

Teach hip hop dance techniques, from basic moves to full choreography.

Create a fun, supportive space where teens can express themselves and build confidence.

Guide teens in teamwork, perseverance, and creative expression through dance.

Help plan and organize performances or small showcases.

Ongoing Medication Management:

Sort, label, and safely store medications.

Digitize and update medication records in the management system.

Regularly check inventory and expiration dates to ensure safe use.

Optimize the medication management software to improve efficiency.

Travel and Accom.

Upon your arrival at the airport, you will be greeted and transported to our project.

Volunteers will be accommodated in dormitories at a centrally located youth hostel. The dormitories are available in female-only or mixed-gender options and feature private bathrooms shared with other occupants in the room.

You will enjoy three meals a day—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—provided at the hostel. The menu features local cuisine prepared in local style, offering a delightful mix of meat, fish, and fresh vegetables.

Upon arrival, volunteers will attend an orientation event that includes an introduction to local culture, an overview of the volunteer experience and program details, practical information, and safety guidelines.

Additionally, you will have the opportunity to participate in a guided city tour, receiving insider tips to help them discover the best of what the city has to offer.
