Costs Explained

Introduction

Live and intern in the rural fishing village of Ban Nam Khem. Fully immerse in the local culture as you support the learning of the English language in local schools and kindergartens.

You will receive training in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), lesson planning and classroom management in order to effectivly fulfill your role as an intern. Other projects you could be involved in may include hosting relaxed English language classes; provide additional support to students as a tutor; facilitate after school activities and assist with eduction classes for adults.

You will be motivated to generate new solutions and propose new elements to improve contribution to the development of the community in Thailand.

Interns are required to complete weekly assignments and host leadership days. While on program, interns are supported by a dedicated mentor.

This internship includes three online courses which must be completed in order to obtain a certificate offered in partnership with the University of Richmond in the United States:

  • Community Development
  • Leadership Training
  • Career Development

After successful completion of this internship, you will be offered two career coaching sessions as well as gain access to a job portal.

Daily Life

Participants are expected to remain flexible as project work changes based on weather as well as needs of our project partners.
Estimated Schedule:

  • 5 or 6am: Wake up call
  • 6 – 10 am: First Survey/Work at the Turtle Center
  • 12pm: Lunch
  • 1pm – 4pm: Second Survey
  • 6pm: Dinner
  • 9pm: Bed Time

As an intern you will have weekly sessions with your mentor.

Travel & Accommodation

Accommodation & Food:

One and a half hour from Phuket airport, our base is located in Ban Nam Khem. A short walk from the beach, our base is located close to the heat of the village where you will find local markets and food vendors.

Accommodation facilities are shared dormitories and can be considered basic.

All meals are provided on project, participants take it in turns to cook for the group. Vegetarians and vegans are easily catered for.

Health & Hygiene:

The work we contribute to across the globe remains important and new measures allow our participants to continue to join our programs and continue impacting positively on their world and the communities we work with. Changes to our existing protocols have been made by our health and hygiene team to strengthen our health and hygiene protocols and ensure that international standard safeguards are in place to protect our participants, staff and host communities.
