Introduction

Volunteers participating in this program will have the opportunity to work closely with local non-profits dedicated to producing ethically made fashion apparel from sustainable materials. They will play a vital role in supporting initiatives that aim to combat the negative environmental and social impacts of the fashion industry.

Greece, like many other European countries, hosts numerous fast fashion companies whose practices contribute to pollution and exploitation, particularly in developing countries where garment production is outsourced. Through this program, volunteers will contribute to efforts to promote sustainability and ethical practices within the fashion industry.

One significant aspect of the program involves upcycling fashion, which entails transforming used garments into new and fashionable items rather than discarding them in landfills. This process not only reduces waste but also breathes new life into clothing, contributing to environmental conservation.

Additionally, you will assist in providing ethical employment opportunities to refugees and survivors of human trafficking, thereby supporting vulnerable populations and promoting social inclusion.

Overall, by engaging in this program, volunteers will actively contribute to creating a more sustainable and socially responsible fashion industry while supporting communities in need.

Daily Life

As a participant in this program, your responsibilities will encompass various general tasks:

1. Selection of Clothes and Fabrics: You will be involved in the process of selecting clothes and fabrics at the factory. This may include assessing the quality, condition, and suitability of garments and materials for upcycling and ethical fashion production.

2. Communication and Social Media Support: You will assist in content creation and filmmaking for communication and social media purposes. This could involve generating engaging content, capturing images and videos, and helping to convey the organization’s message effectively across different platforms.

3. Coordination Support in Fashion School Workshops: You will provide support in coordinating fashion school workshops. This may involve assisting with logistical arrangements, facilitating activities during workshops, and ensuring the smooth running of the events.

Overall, your role will contribute to the promotion of ethical fashion practices, sustainable production methods, and the empowerment of vulnerable communities within the fashion industry.

Book with Confidence

Travel and Accom.

Upon your arrival at the airport, you will be greeted and transported to our project.

Volunteers will be accommodated in dormitories at a centrally located youth hostel in Athens. The dormitories are available in female-only or mixed-gender options and feature private bathrooms shared with other occupants in the room.

The hostel provides various amenities, including a bar area, a comfortable sitting area, and a communal kitchen for those who prefer to cook their meals. Additionally, some rooms offer balconies for relaxation, and the rooftop boasts stunning views of the Acropolis, providing a serene environment to unwind after a day of volunteering.

You will enjoy three meals a day—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—provided at the hostel. The menu features local cuisine prepared in Greek style, offering a delightful mix of meat, fish, and fresh vegetables.

Upon arrival, volunteers will attend an orientation event that includes an introduction to Greek culture, an overview of the volunteer experience and program details, practical information, and safety guidelines.

Additionally, you will have the opportunity to participate in a guided city tour, receiving insider tips to help them discover the best of what the city has to offer.
