Introduction
Take this exciting opportunity to care for rescued wild Mustang horses! Often called the “Spirit of the West,” the Mustang is in need of your help. Volunteer for a minimum of 2 weeks up to a maximum of 12 weeks (longer stays are encouraged to truly connect with the horses) at this rewarding project in Florida!
Mustangs, introduced to the U.S. by the Spaniards in the early 1500s, once played a pivotal role in building America. However, now that their labor is no longer needed, these majestic animals face mistreatment and neglect. While their wild population once exceeded 2 million, today only around 40,000 remain in the wild, with an equal number in captivity, urgently needing rescue and rehabilitation.
At this project, you’ll be involved in daily tasks such as feeding, grooming, cleaning stables, and socializing with the horses. You’ll also have the chance to take horse trail rides through the beautiful natural landscape, which is surrounded by forests, lagoons, and beaches—offering the perfect backdrop for a truly immersive experience.
While caring for wild horses can be a physically demanding and challenging job, it’s incredibly rewarding. Your efforts will directly contribute to the rescue and rehabilitation of these amazing animals, providing them with the care they need and deserve. The project operates year-round, and volunteers will also assist with public education efforts.
Join us in beautiful Florida and help make a difference for these iconic creatures while experiencing the breathtaking landscape, including incredible trail rides and outdoor adventures. This is not just a holiday—it’s a chance to make a meaningful impact on the lives of these amazing horses!
Daily Life
Experience the unique opportunity to care for and learn about wild horses, assisting in their rehabilitation and preparing them for a second chance at life. Your hands-on involvement will help with the horses’ care, learning their habits, and supporting their transition from wild to rehabilitated.
As a volunteer, you will be actively involved in training and socializing wild horses, giving them the tools they need to be adopted or released back into their natural environment. You will also educate the public about the importance of wild horse conservation and the rescue efforts underway, participating in events and awareness campaigns to spread knowledge and support.
And, of course, go horseback riding over the stunning trails of Florida’s countryside, taking in the beauty of the landscape while building a deeper bond with these magnificent animals.
This is your chance to make a real difference in the lives of wild horses while experiencing the natural wonders of Florida. Join us in providing a brighter future for these animals and help prepare them for their second chance at life!
Travel and Accom.
Upon your arrival at the airport, you will be greeted and transported to our project.
Volunteers will be accommodated in a 3 bedrooms 3 bath house or an adjacent cabin with detached bathroom and shower. In the house, each bedroom rooms up to 4 volunteers (co-ed, bunk beds, dorm style). The cabin houses up to four volunteers with two beds and two lofts. (Please refer to the ‘Pics & Vids’ option to see some photos) The lofts are used for short-term volunteers. The house includes several communal areas, which are available to all volunteers, which include dining rooms, living room, pool deck, fire pit, carport, outdoor screened pool, modern kitchen, and laundry facilities. We ask each volunteer to keep their own personal items neat and tidy and be willing to help keep the common areas clean and clear of unnecessary items.
You will enjoy three meals a day featuring local cuisine, offering a delightful mix of meat, fish, and fresh vegetables.
Upon arrival, volunteers will attend an orientation event that includes an introduction to local culture, an overview of the volunteer experience and program details, practical information, and safety guidelines.
